Susan Sarandon Bio
It was just after the 1968 Democratic convention There was an audition to a film that had several parts for teenagers who had disrupted the convention. Joe (1970) was auditioned in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon, who had been studying to become an actor, was turned by the casting committee. His wife Susan was given the coveted part as Susan Compton as the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Next, Joe (Peter Boyle) as a bigot, who works on an assembly line and collects guns, is a friend to Susan. Five years later Sarandon creates the film. Janet is a transvestite who becomes entangled with Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). Sarandon was a fierce advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988) more than 15 year following her first appearance in the film. She flew at her own expense from Rome from Italy, to Los Angeles. She stated "It was an incredible script... it eliminated a myriad of stereotypes and challenged America's notion of what success is". "I went to the studio together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his sexy assistants before boarding the plane. Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, had already produced two sons in 1992, which put Sarandon in a position where she could leave home and take on challenging roles. It was the result four Academy Award nominations in 1990s, and best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
